Paramedic Devin Hurd

The IAEP is deeply saddened to announce the death of IAEP Local 325 member and paramedic Devin Hurd, who lost his battle to brain cancer at age 34 this month.

Hurd was an EMS provider for Escambia County, Florida for over 10 years, completing his trainings, rising through the ranks of the EMS division, and even providing mentorship to fellow providers in spite of his illness over the years. He is remembered for his incredible sense of tenacity and deep dedication to helping others.

Hurd was very much loved by Local 325, as he was a true friend to all he encountered. He is survived by his parents, his brother, and his loving wife, Local 325 Chief Shop Steward Aimee Hurd, whom he met as an EMS colleague before becoming his wife.

Hurd's friends and family remember his bright, genuine smile and humble intelligence. They fondly recall him as a gentle, witty, and quietly brilliant man who found joy in the simple beauty of nature.

Our thoughts remain with those who knew and loved Hurd-- including his friends, family, and coworkers-- during this incredibly difficult time.

All those touched by his story are invited to join The Hurd’s Herd in a walk in his memory and to raise awareness for brain cancer research.

Union Local Tax Issues

Federal law now requires that every local union file an annual information return—Form 990, 990-EZ, or 990-N—with the IRS.

If your local fails to file under this new requirement, your local will lose its tax-exempt status.
