Two members of IAEP Local 370 Falck Mobile Health were given the prestigious Star of Life award by the California Ambulance Association for their life saving work in the face of the Eaton fires this January.
Chris Brito and Alex Campos, EMTs and field training officers of Local 370, received their awards in recognition of going above and beyond the call of duty, meaningfully impacting their communities and advancing the EMS profession in response to the wildfires that ravaged much of Southern California.
According to an article from the Journal of Emergency Medical Services (JEMS) about their heroism, Brito and Campos responded to the fires “without hesitation” to provide invaluable care and support.
“With extensive training in prehospital care, Chris worked alongside firefighters, paramedics and other first responders to treat victims of the fire,” wrote JEMS. “His calm under pressure allowed him to handle various medical emergencies, from smoke inhalation to burns, while also assisting in evacuations and providing reassurance to distressed families. Chris’s selflessness and expertise played a critical role in ensuring that victims received the care they needed, helping the community maintain its strength during this challenging time.”
Campos, too, was praised for his bravery and dedication.
“Alex’s background in prehospital care and his deep commitment to public safety enabled him to provide critical medical assistance throughout the disaster,” wrote JEMS. “From treating burn victims and those suffering from smoke inhalation to helping evacuate those in harm’s way, Alex’s steady presence was a source of comfort for families in distress. His willingness to volunteer during such dangerous conditions was a powerful example of the courage and compassion that define the best in emergency medical services.”
The IAEP is extremely proud of Alex and Chris for their accolades, and endlessly appreciative of the hard work of all of the EMS providers who helped in the Eaton fires.
