The National EMS Memorial will hold its annual service on Saturday, May 23, the last day of National EMS Week, honoring EMS professionals from around the country who were lost in the line of duty.
Among the many EMS professionals honored during this year's ceremony, which will take place in Roanoke, Virginia, are IAEP members Robert Gilmore (Local 917, Polk County EMS) and Donna Lee Miller (Local 247, Sun Star Paramedics). Polk County Firefighter Benjamin Lang, who worked closely with members of Local 917, is also being honored during this year's service. Lang passed away in an ambulance involved motor vehicle collision in 2004.
"The men and women honored by the EMS Memorial have all made the ultimate sacrifice for their patients and profession," said IAEP National Director Matthew Levy. "We hope that the sacrifice made by these members helps others realize the risks EMS professionals face on the job every day."
Gilmore succumbed to an on-duty cerebral vascular accident on July 5, 2003, while Miller passed following an ambulance related accident on December 29, 2004. Click here for a complete list of the EMS professionals being honored in this year's service.
