IAEP Welcomes Bret Cyr to Union Family

March 17, 2009

The IAEP is proud to welcome Bret Cyr as the latest edition to our team of national representatives.

With 19 years as a paramedic and over 10 years of experience as a critical care nurse, Bret understands what our members face on the job every day. As a member of IAEP Local R5-621, Bret held the offices of secretary, treasurer and vice president respectively, working diligently on behalf of his fellow members. Recently, Bret has been working with the IAEP to continue providing top-notch services to the union's members in Florida.

"Bret is both knowledgeable and passionate about the EMS field as a whole," said IAEP National Director Matthew Levy. "I know Bret will work as hard as he can to continue improving the lives of his fellow EMS professionals in Florida and across the country."

Raised in Maine, Bret moved to Florida in 1989 and is a veteran with the United States Air Force. Bret is happily married to his wife Sheryl, with whom he has three daughters, Megan, 15, Laura, 14, and Jessica, 11. Bret's recent focus on internal organizing in Florida, a right-to-work state, has resulted in an increase in membership and a strengthened local structure.

"My passion is to work towards making EMS a career, not a stepping stone," said Cyr. "I'm happy to be working with the IAEP to get EMTs and paramedics the same respect and benefits that other public safety professionals currently enjoy."

The IAEP welcomes Bret to the team and looks forward to working with him throughout the future.
