EMS Professionals with Enfield EMS Ratify Contract Following Lengthy Negotiations

May 14, 2009

Following months of difficult negotiations, the members of Local 717, EMS professionals with Enfield EMS of Connecticut, recently ratified a new contract agreement.

The new agreement, which was ratified overwhelmingly, not only guarantees these members wage increases throughout the life of the contract, but it also includes retro-active increases covering 2008. Members of the negotiating committee were also able to preserve their current health care benefits.

The members of Local 717 also worked hard to increase job security by including language restricting the role of local fire departments in providing EMS services to the surrounding communities. They were also able to include language protecting all bargaining unit members from being laid-off during the life of the contract.

"This contract covers a lot of ground for these EMS professionals," said IAEP National Representative Steve Weigand. "The job securities gained through this agreement are extremely important, especially during these difficult economic times."

Weigand thanks all of the members of Local 717 Negotiating Committee for their diligence throughout these difficult negotiations.

"The members of the negotiating committee worked hard to secure a contract that benefits every member of Local 717," said Weigand.
