EMS Professionals with Local 44 Negotiate Wage Re-Opener While Preparing to Campaign for New Fire Levy

January 21, 2009

The members of IAEP Local 44, EMS professionals with the Saybrook Township Fire Department of Ohio, recently negotiated wage increases with the Township's Board of Trustees.

IAEP National Representative Christian Cloen worked with the members of Local 44 to negotiate a three-and-a-half percent (3.5%) wage increase during the second year of their collective bargaining agreement. Local 44 members can now focus on working diligently with the Board of Trustees on a public awareness campaign aimed to gain voter approval on a new fire levy.

"Our members understand the importance of this levy and are stepping up to help the Trustees get information to the residents they serve and protect," said Cloen. "This levy provides moneys to the fire department that are necessary to keep it running smoothly."

In order to facilitate a public awareness campaign, Local 44 will form a three member committee that will meet with the Board of Trustees and begin distributing information to the residents of the Township.

"We understand that if the new levy can successfully replace its predecessor, we will be able to discuss possible wage increases for the third year of the bargaining agreement as well as additional wage increase to go in affect later this year," said Cloen. "This is a win-win situation for our members and the residents of the Township who will continue to receive the best emergency services possible."
